Pirelli Calendar 2013 - Change Of Approach

2013 Pirelli Calendar's models get to keep their clothes on!

Pirelli is a tire producer known for releasing annual calendars presenting female nudes. This year brings in a change of approach and a perspective so different I would almost call it a revolution. Ladies get to keep their clothes on! Steve McCurry is the man behind the lenses and a photographer responsible for a refreshingly different series of images. They are all shot in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Every model appearing in this year's calendar runs her own charity.

"You can photograph nudes anywhere," says McCurry. "But these models are purposeful and idealistic people. I wanted to photograph them in a special place."

McCurry made his name documenting Afghanistan in the early 1980s, having smuggled himself into the country by growing a beard and wearing traditional clothes.

Facebook Woman

Sheryl Sandberg
 photo Vogue

Sheryl Sandberg is the first woman on Facebook's board of directors who brought changes into the tech-heavy, boys-populated environment. She has been mentioned by the Times Magazine as one of the most influential people on the planet. As the Facebook shares went on sales in May, let's hear some of the Sandberg's thoughts on life:
.
'I walk out of my office every day at 5.30 so I'm home for dinner with my kids. I've been doing that since I had children but it's not until the last year that I've been brave enough to talk about it publicly.'
.
'There is no such thing as work-life balance. There's work, and there's life, and there's no balance'.
.
'I want to tell any young girl out there who is a geek that I was a really serious geek in high school. It works out. Study harder.'
.
I am a geek. And I know many smart girls who are geeks, too. Let's hope it works out for us as well with a bit of an inspiration from Sandberg.

Female graffiti artist hits the streets of Europe

Grafiiti Alice Pasquini

Alice Pasquini is a busy Rome-based graffiti artist, truly dedicated to her projects. She has lived in France, Spain and the UK and brought her beautiful art to the streets of those countries. Her portfolio is impressive and also includes sketches and illustrations. It is even difficult to imagine how she could produce such an incredible amount of work. Pasquini's graffiti is a ture celebration of art in all its glory, passion and selflessness. There is a nostalgia and delicacy in her colourful images. It looks as if streets are pages from a book Alice puts her work on. She is an illustrator who decorates the world. I am impressed and humbled and am looking forward to her getting big commissions for graffiti projects in the world's capitals.
.
I have chosen a few excamples of her work, but there is so much more on her website.
